An urban trip to Extremadura

This is my first article in English in the blog, so sorry for the mistakes. I hope to write better the next times.

Now, let’s talk about my next Easter Holidays. The First idea was to go to Berlin but I didn’t find a good flight to go there, and the tickets were too expensive, so finally I‘m going to go to Extremadura. I’ve lived in Caceres for three months, but I didn’t have too much time to do tourism. I was doing the military service. You know...

Extremadura is very different of Berlin, I Know. Berlin is a big and modern city. Extremadura is more a rural area but is a wonderful place too, in Extremadura there are a lot of interesting towns and Roman ruins. That’s very interesting for me because I love The Rome's history. I can’t forget its gastronomy and the travel is cheaper.

We’ve Booked hotel in Trujillo, The town where Francisco Pizarro and Francisco de Orellana were born. Trujillo is a beautiful mediaval town and is about 40 km to Caceres. We’re going to visit it first day. From there, we’re going to travel to Emerita Augusta, the capital of the old Roman Province of Lusitania, Caceres and finally Guadalupe.

Second day we’re going to go to Merida. I was in Merida long time ago, but my friends have never been and they want to visit it, so I’ll have to go again. It doesn’t matter to me. Merida was one of the best cities of the Roman Empire, was founded by Augusto emperor in the year 25 a.c. It’s a monumental city and the Theatre Roman is its essential attraction, was bought by Marco Agripa, son in law of Augusto. I think everybody than travel to Extremadura should visit the theatre Roman of Merida. Is one the more important of the world.

We’re going to visit Caceres next day. The most visited of Caceres is its old mediaval City. Caceres' mediaval city was declared Patrimony of Humanity in 1986 by the Unesco. It’s a special place. People take their time to visit it. When I’ll be walking for yours mediaval streets, I’ll think that the time has stopped. After visit it, we’ll have lunch in Atrio Restaurant, famous for its wine list and its expensive prices of course.

Finally, last day we’re going to travel to Guadalupe town. The Monastery of Guadalupe was declared Patrimony of Humanity by the Unesco too.If we can, we’d like to do its guide visit. After visit, we’ll have lunch there and then I’d like to go to Bohonal de Ibor, bohonal is a bit village near Toledo Mountains.it’s about one hour from Guadalupe by car. In Bohonal, close the tajo river are the rests of Augustobriga. An antique village Roman called Talavera de la Vieja in the middle age. It’s a beautiful and very interesting place.We'll have a look, and will take some photos.

Well, this is the plan for my trip to Extremadura at Easter. It’s a very urban trip, I know, but I'm a very urban man. Next year I’d like to travel to Jerte Valley and The Hurdes.But it, will be next year.
